MIXED MEDICINE GROUP THERAPY SESSIONS
WHAT IS IT?
MIXED MEDICINE group therapy sessions focused toward community healing through relational group work. Group work offers the opportunity to bond with others who are also practising healing through divesting from colonial narratives and power-dynamics. Mixed medicine sessions are generally facilitated in 6-week cycles with explicit encouragement that the group continues to meet and work together in a collaboratively facilitated process.
FOR BIPOC - Meeting, hearing from and sharing stories with other people who share a significant cultural and/or structural experience can be deeply supportive. Where dominant power structures often encourage self-gaslighting and self-doubt, group work can support deep connections, affirm experiences, unearth internal and relational strategies, and support growth through connection and consciousness.
FOR WHITE FOLK - Un-learning colonial processes and untangling from white supremacy is no small task and often white folk are stuck in the ‘I-dont-know-what-to-do’ and ‘i-can’t-ask-BIPOC-for-their-labour’ paradox. Working relationally and experientially with other white folk who are on a similar journey can deeply support the doubt and fragilities that can arise and nurture cultural re-buildling through shared values and strengths.
